Stroke symptoms and causes

Stroke is a condition where blood supply to a particular part of brain is interrupted leading to damage of certain cells in that area. As a result, the opposite side of the body, of the affected area of brain will have temporary or permanent functional disability.

Ayurveda and Nagarjuna offers effective treatments to rehabilitate the patients after the acute phase is over. Ayurvedic therapies will enhance the process of rehabilitation of muscles and nerves. It helps in reducing the stiffness, spasm and pain. It helps improve range of movements at the joints, strength of the muscles, cognition, speech, fine movements, general wellbeing and quality of life.

Specific internal medicines are given as part of the treatments. External therapies are done with specific medicated oils and raw drugs. Therapeutic oil massage, continuous pouring of warn herbal decoction all over the body (kashaya dhara), gentle massage all over the body with poultice made of herbal powders after dipped in warm medicated oil (podi kizhi), gentle massage all over the body with poultice made of herbal leaves after dipped in warm medicated oil (ela kizhi), continuous pouring of stream of warm medicated oil all over the body (pizhichil), massage with poultice made of cooked herbal grains in a mix of herbal decoction and cows milk (njavara kizhi), pouring of continuous stream of warm medicated oil on fore head (siro dhara), keeping a pool of medicated oil on head in the cap fitted on the head (siro vasti), exposure of medicated oil applied face to the steam and/or smoke of mix of herbal decoction and cows milk (paal poka) are the therapies usually done.

Major Panchakarma procedures like gentle purgation (virechanam), nasal administration of specific oils in drops (nasya), enema (vasti) with medicated oil, enema with herbal decoction are done based on the condition and physical status of the patient.

Patient will be allowed to continue with the current medication. Physiotherapy is also integrated along with Ayurvedic therapy, in a moderate level, for the better results.
