Painful Arc Syndrome or Supraspinatus Tendinitis is a condition where the muscle tendon becomes inflamed and pinched between the upper part of the long bone on the upper arm (humerous) and the protruded bone of the shoulder blade (acromion) situated at the shoulder area. Continuous overhead activities lead to the rubbing and inflammation of the tendon. When the person lifts his hand, the natural reduction in the space between the bones applies pressure on the already inflamed tendon causing severe pain. Pain is not felt up to 60 degree. Beyond which the pain starts and increases till 120 degree. There after the pain again subsides. The pain increases while performing overhead activities, at night and on lying on the affected side. In severe conditions, along with pain patient may also feel weakness of the shoulder joint.
