Heel pain is very common now a days especially among female population. The pain is mostly noticed at the bottom or at the back of the heel. Pain is usually associated with tenderness of the area. Stress and strain by walking, long duration standing and stepping up and down can increase the pain.
Pain under the heel is usually because of two reasons.
Plantar fasciitis-Inflammation of the cushion like structure (facia), which supports the arch of the foot, where the bones are arranged.
Calcaneal spur-Calcified thorn like formation at the base of the heel.
Pain at back of the heel is also because of two reasons.
Achillis tendinitis-Inflammation of the long tendon attaching the calf muscle to the back of the heel
Retro calcaneal bursitis- Inflammation of the air sac at the back of the heel
