Frozen Shoulder is one of the most common reason for shoulder pain. The pain may worsen at night and on strain on the shoulder joint. Along with pain, the patient also feels stiffness and limitation in movement. Later the joint becomes frozen with no possible movements. This is quite common in diabetic patients and the patients with thyroid dysfunction. The inflammation in the shoulder, hardening of the soft tissues in the capsule along with reduction in the synovial fluid are the reasons for the shoulder to end up frozen.

Ayurveda consider this as Vata increase at the joint due to over activity. This causes reduction in the lubricating fluid in the joints and therebydehydrating the soft structures. This leads to inflammation and thickening of the capsule. When this condition is not managed, it eventually ends up in complete hardening of the capsule leading to loss or limitation in the joint movement.

Effective ayurvedic treatments are there to manage this condition at Nagarjuna Ayurvedic centre with special medicines and oils. With appropriate internal medicines, massage of the affected area with selected medicated oils, massage with herbal powder bag (podi kizhi) heated in the appropriate warm medicated oil, massage with herbal leaf bag (ela kizhi) dipped in warm medicated oil, pouring medicated oil all over the body (pizhichil) , cooked medicated rice bag massage (njavara kizhi), , application of the herbal paste on the shoulder, bandage of the affected part with medicated oil. Panchakarma therapies like nasal drops (nasyam) with medicated oil are the procedures usually performed in the management of these condition. Treatments coupled with physiotherapy gives very effective results.
