How Ayurvedic treatment can be beneficial for migraine
Migraine is a chronic neurological syndrome characterized by recurrent severe headaches, irritability, and nausea. The intense pain in migraine usually starts in the forehead, around the eyes, or one or both sides of the head and it worsens gradually. Loud music or bright lights can further aggravate the condition. Migraine attacks can last from a couple of hours to even a few days and the severity of the pain can be disabling.
In Ayurveda, migraine pain is classified as a tridoshic condition. The traditional medical system of Ayurveda can be highly effective in reducing migraine headaches through a systematic treatment procedure.
Ayurvedic view regarding migraine
According to Ayurveda, migraine pain occurs due to an imbalance in tridosha or the three basic energy types: Vata (wind energy), Pitta (fire energy), and Kapha (water energy). Out of these three, Vata and Pitta dosha are mainly responsible for this disorder. Their imbalance causes deep-rooted problems in the body, including weakened digestive and nervous systems. Vata is responsible for the nervous system and brain activity. Pitta controls the dilation of the blood vessels. By studying the external symptoms, it is possible to identify which of the three doshas is causing the attack.
Treatment of migraine through Ayurveda
Ayurvedic treatment of migration is centered around purification and balancing of the doshas. Addressing the underlying imbalances through the application of Ayurvedic medicines along with yoga, Panchakarma, good dietary habits, and lifestyle modification can bring complete relief to migraine patients.
