Yes, obesity is officially a disease, one that is chronic, ever prevalent and in dire need of new remedies for cure and prevention. Obesity has only recently received negative flak, as a 21st century, lifestyle disease in recent years. It is the leading cause of death in the United States, bringing upon extremities in terms of physical disability, cost, and high insurance to oneself.

Simply put, obesity is the condition when there is excess body fat that it jeopardizes one’s life. This typically happens when you consume more calories than you burn off, which leads to accumulation of body fat around the stomach and hip region mostly. Getting your Body Mass Index, or BMI, recorded by a doctor should indicate whether you are obese or not.

Risks involved in being obese

Being obese is not to be mistaken for being overweight. The former poses greater risk to the body than a few extra kilos. Health risks such as hypertension, musculoskeletal diseases, type 2 diabetes, arthritis, and heart disease to begin with.

Obesity can also sometimes play across as an inherited disease with early signs of weight gain showing up during childhood. The risk of contracting non-communicable diseases also increases with a high BMI as obesity, or excess fat deposits around the body, tends to affect one’s immune system over time. It compromises the basic functioning of organ systems, creating blockages and reducing blood flow to all parts of the body.

Immediate Ayurvedic steps for cure

Ayurveda uses natural herbs as potions to increase fat burn. Some of the common herbs are Triphala, Brahmi, curry leaves, turmeric, ginger and pepper pressed into oil for repeated massage treatments or during steam baths that start working on breaking down accumulated body fat. Through Ayurveda and its strict dietary restrictions, one can expect dramatic weight loss. Herbs like amla (gooseberry), lime and honey are predominantly used in Ayurvedic therapies for induced weight loss the natural way. Most experts of Ayurvedic treatments for obesity also recommend yoga on a daily basis for induced weight loss.

The good news is most of the problems brought on by obesity can be cured through Ayurveda, and there are many forms of treatments available. It is non-invasive and low cost, it is also a preferred way to work upon severe cases of obesity. Ayurvedic treatments have shown to be effective in the long run as well.
