Trapezitis is a common problem which causes pain and spasm on the upper back and nape of the neck area. Trapezius is a broad, flat and superficial muscle which extends from the back of the head all the way up to the mid back covering the shoulder blades. Inflammation of this muscle leads to pain and stiffness in the upper back, nape of the neck and back of the head leading to restricted movements. It is a common condition with people who do desk work continuously leading to the strain of this muscle.  Bad posture also can lead to inflammation of trapezius.

The patients always will have a kind of nagging and aching pain in and around the shoulder, back and nape of the neck, back of the head and mid back. It usually reduces the focus, output and effectiveness of their activity. When the condition is ignored for long, it leads inter vertebral discs issues at the neck area with serious consequences. Treatment with appropriate Ayurvedic internal medicines and external ayurvedic therapies will reduce the inflammation leading to reduction in pain, stiffness and improvement in movements. Certain therapies done as part of the treatment protocol will strengthen the muscles, helping in preventing relapse.
